Hudson Valley Inn Logo Design

For the main logo, I was going for one that would portray an upscale hotel that would be a place for city dwellers to admire the outdoors as I think this is what the Hudson Valley is all about. To show an aspect of the Hudson Valley being a place to visit especially to admire the foliage I chose to incorporate leaves into the design. I also chose the element of diamonds to further portray this idea of upscale. I used the curve of the leaves and mimicked that element throughout the design of the logo. This can be seen in the curvature of "Hudson Valley" and also in some of the letters which I manipulated to curve such as in the "H, A, N....etc."

For the other two logos I wanted to keep elements looking cohesive yet add variation as well. I felt that if all the logos had all the same elements then the main logo wouldn't be that unique. I used that same type manipulation in both logos for the "Eatery" and "Bar." I kept the name similar and used the same orientation of "Henry" with the two lines surrounding the name in each logo. For the illustrations I wanted to keep that same linear style with some lines in the form to add slight texture.

For the hues I chose I displayed the logos on colored backgrounds for the sake of introducing the hues used  for this branding of the Inn. These hues can be swapped back and forth between the green, yellow and neutral yellow. I kept with a palette of a golden yellow to indicate an elements of fall. I chose to balance that with a rich emerald to portray the Hudson Valley being known for its lush scenery. The last hue is a desaturated tone of the golden yellow which I felt brought some neutrality to the piece. I think with these hues you can constantly be switching out the hues of the logos depending on the branding. The business card is where I start to utilize the color palette and for this layout I wanted to go the simple route because this card is small in size. When I was designing this I kept zooming out to the actual size of the card to make sure the elements and type would be legible. Overall I had a really great time with this project because it was a new experience!
